THE LAKE
Located in Greenfield, NH and considered a protected waterbody by the State. The lake is 33 acres in size, mainly spring fed with a maximum depth of about 25 ft. The Greenfield Community Beach is located at the West end of the lake, the Crotched Mountain School runs activities on the North side of the lake with the South & East sides housing approximately 22 residential properties.
BOATING RULES
The following rules are defined by the NH Department of Safety ( Sunset Lake (aka Gould Pond) - Greenfield SAF-C 402.78) and can be found at:
(a) No person shall operate a motorboat on Sunset Lake in Greenfield at a speed exceeding 10 MPH. However, this restriction shall not apply between 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. or sunset, whichever occurs first, on Monday through Saturday, both inclusive, and further provided during the restricted hours, motorboats shall not be operated at a speed exceeding 30 MPH.
(b) All waterskiing on Sunset Lake shall be in a counter-clockwise direction during the unlimited hours.
BEACH RULES
The town beach is for residents and taxpayers of the Town of Greenfield, N.H. only. Guests are permitted when accompanied by a resident or taxpayer. Greenfield facilities permit sticker is required on your vehicle. You may obtain the sticker from the Town Office. Non-residents registered for swimming lessons may obtain a temporary permit.
Regulation of Sunset Beach as per Town Ordinance (originally voted 1992). Fines for violation up to $100.00 and/or not more than 20 hours community service
The beach is open to the residents between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.
NO DOGS, horses, pets or animals of any kind are allowed on the beach!
No open fires are permitted.
No vehicles are allowed on the beach.
Disturbing noises and/or music is prohibited.
Littering, including the careless disposal of cigarettes is prohibited.
Pick up your trash and take it home with you. This is a carry in/carry out facility.
Alcoholic beverages prohibited.
NO Smoking on the beach
No lifeguard on duty sign will be posted when no lifeguard present. Swim at your own risk.
Listen to the lifeguards at all times.
Lifeguards have the discretion to ask parties to leave the beach premises.
Parents must watch children near parking lot area. It’s the lifeguard’s job to watch the water.
No Horseplay.
No Floatation devices allowed while lifeguards are on duty.
Fishing allowed on the outside of roped beach area ONLY!
Do not feed the ducks or other wildlife present near beach area.
Floating Raft Rules
No rough play.
No tipping of the floating rafts.
No other floatation devices other than noodles to the floating raft.
Lifeguards have the discretion of deciding if person swims well enough to go in deep water out to the rafts.
No swimming under the rafts.
The beach water is tested by the State. Any time the beach is deemed unsafe for swim, please abide by the signage posted.
